The purest Castile Soap

I hope you all had a nice weekend! I´m so happy to come back!! Sorry for this long absence, I really wanted to post at least a couple of times, but the whirl of moving and so many changes and so much work pending stopped me. I am -quite- really maniacal about cleanliness and order and the inability to have control over so much chaos has really  stressed me. I still have so much to do, the new house is really beautiful and so roomy, but requires hard work and hours to clean. And although I am far from over, I wanted to publish this Monday. And talking about cleaning, I want to share with you some of my recipes for homemade soap.

jabon casero

I will explain the step by step of this recipe and I hope you follow them to the letter if you´re going to give this recipe a go, and please don´t  skip  any step and follow all the security measures. When working with caustic soda we have to be very careful and work with caution.
This is my favorite soap for washing clothes, but we also use it for everything, shower, hair, etc ... I have tried many recipes of Castile soap, and this is, for me, the best one I´ve ever tried, its creaminess looks like a Dove soap, it is also super gentle, fully recommended for sensitive and atopic skin,  treating eczema, psoriasis or any skin problems. Ideal for babies, and washing their clothes.

Materials needed:
scales
a large plastic bucket
wooden spoon or stick
gloves
safety goggles
moulds (can be plastic or silicone)
an old blanket
Ingredients:
97 gr lye (sold in supermarkets)
207 gr water
760 gr virgin olive oil
5% superfatted
32% concentration
Procedure:
We must use scales and perform all the measurements carefully. Use gloves and goggles while working.
This first step will be done in a place with good ventilation, such as near a window, or in the garden or in the kitchen near the exhaust fan. Pour the water in a large plastic container and then carefully pour the soda, blending with a wooden spoon or stick until dilute the mix. Move  away for a while to avoid the inhalation of toxic gases, and don´t touch the bowl because it will be hot.
Wait a few minutes until warmed (it should reach around 40 degrees), about 30 minutes will sufficient. Slowly start adding the olive oil, mixing with the wooden spoon, I advise you to use a hand mixer, as it greatly speeds up the process. Mixing by hand can take about 2 hours, resting and blending from time to time, while with a hand mixer it will only take about 10 minutes.
You will see that the mixture begins to thicken, when it gets a creamy texture, trace will be achieved. Now you can add your essential oils, mixing gently and it´s time to pour into moulds.
Once in the moulds, wrap them with plastic film and cover with a blanket to keep the warmth and let your soap continue its process.
Let stand about 24 hours, and now you can uncover and unmold. If you see that still lacks consistency and it could break if we unmold it, leave for another 24 hours, until firm and solid.
This is the time to let the soap cure, for at least 6 weeks we´ll let our soap to dry, and after that time we can start using it and enjoying its many benefits.
hacer jabon casero

In this other post, you will find in the comments section, the recipe of my lavender soap, I often use this recipe as a base for any body soap because at home we really like its bubbles and creaminess it brings, if you feel like making soap I invite you to try this one too.
If you want to change the proportions or ingredients you have to be very rigorous in the measurements and proportions, so I recommend you use the saponification calculator and also visit its forum, where you will find a lot of information.
I can assure you that once you try the homemade natural soap, you will not want to use any other soap, not only your skin and your clothes will thank you, you will also save a lot of money and you will enjoy a lot preparing it, only the soap maker knows the true pleasure of making his own soap!!
I hope you feel encouraged, and you´ll tell me if this is not the grandma´s real soap, no chemicals, no artificial colors or flavors,  nothing artificial!! I encourage you to read the composition of any "natural" soap that you find in the market and then tell me if it can compete in "natural" with this homemade soap ;)
Wish you a wonderful week ahead!!! I really missed you all!!

One of my must visit stores in L.A has to be Acne Studios. Unlike all the other stores in it’s category it is located downtown, which is very unusual, as all labels in its line have their stores in Melrose or Beverly Hills. In terms of makeup nothing rivals the power of red lips. Whether it looks classic or sexy, it reigns every season.
