Soothing After Sun Cream

I hope you´ve enjoyed a wonderful weekend! This post is specially  for all of you who are on the beach, enjoying the holidays or coming back home again... and surely you´ll have already got a beautiful tan, and certainly more than one of you will need to soothe your skin after such a long exposure to sun, sea and outdoor activities. Thinking about all of you, I´m sharing today  the recipe of my most beloved cream, and I"m sure that once you try it,  you will love it as much as I do. You can´t say  I don´t take  care of you!!
soothing homemade after sun cream

soothing homemade after sun cream

crema after sun

This cream, as you will see by its composition, is highly moisturizing, but not greasing at all, it doesn´t produce that annoying sticky feeling, its texture is so creamy and silky, and it smells heavenly! It is ideal for body and face, especially the areas exposed to sun, because it is very soothing!
I"ve been using it for over a year and love it! During winter I use it basically for face and hands, but in summer it is such a great body cream!!
Besides soothing and moisturizing, it has a great healing effect. As many of you know, I´ve recently burned my hand with steam, and if at first what it was terrible was the burn itself, then they were the blisters, and when they burst, what it was horrific was the wounds. Obviously I turned to professional health care, but once removed the bandages I began to use my homemade lavender salve, which is ideal for burns, and then this cream that I bring you today, and now with just only one little scar, I can affirm that this cream has done wonders!
After a long summer day, nothing like this cream to moisturize, soothe, refresh, smooth and cool the skin. Give it a go and you will see how good it is!!
Soothing After Sun Cream
3/4 Cup shea butter
1/2 Cup sweet almond oil (or a mixture of almond oil and coconut or olive or argan oil)
6-10 drops   mint / chamomile / lavender / geranium essential oil
1 tsp cornstarch
Vitamin E
Melt shea butter in double boiler on very low heat, add the almond oil and stir. I used a mixture of oils (almond oil, some drops of argan oil, coconut oil and rose infused olive oil until filling half a cup).
Remove from heat and place the bowl on a bigger bowl filled with ice to cool down the mixture.
Add the essential oil you have at home, I used peppermint essential oil and chamomile essential oil, both with a great calming, refreshing and rejuvenating effect. Add the cornstarch and a few drops of vitamin E, if you have, whisk at high speed until it looks like whipped cream. If you see that it takes some time to thicken, take for a few minutes to the freezer, and whisk again.  Wih the  bowl of ice should be enough, but if weather is too hot, it may  take a few minutes to get the right consistency.
I recommend you keep this cream in the refrigerator in an airtight glass, and it is perfectly preserved for many months, but you can also put some cream in a small galss and take it in your bag or suitcase with you, wherever you go!  You´ll thank me later, I know!!! :)
You will also fall in love with its perfume and texture, if you´ve ever tried homemade creams you should have noticed how  difficult it is to achieve a creamy texture, this cream has a really silky  feel, very soft effect, I have smeared my finger to give you an idea of ??its softness and smoothness:

I hope you give it a go, and I´m sure I will only get positive reviews! Wish you spend a very happy week, full of laughter and love!
I say goodbye for some days, I´ll be combining study and holidays for the next two weeks, and will return in mid-August eager to hear from you and share many new recipes!! See you soon!!!
