Are your feet happy?

I hope you´ve enjoyed the weekend!! Here it has been really hot, and with summer arrives one of my most feared tortures: foot blisters and rubbing! I love to wear sandals and wedges, every year I succumb to the new tempting shoes that stores offer, and after a couple of uses I fall into my harsh reality: a pair of walks and my feet are full of blisters, chafing and real grooves in my feet...
No matter the quality of the shoe, whether it is leather or synthetic, if it is closed or open, with strips or laces, breathable or not ... everything hurts me!
So I returned to my foot soaks, and my foot care kit, that it´s really comforting. And when I was in my little homemade spa, I realized that I had never shared this recipe on this blog!! I thought to publish a couple of months ago and I forgot completely, so I think today is a good time, we don´t  need to have our feet damaged to enjoy this care, which is highly moisturizing and nourishing. I shared before a green tea foot spa recipe, you can see it here. Anyway, I´m sure you´ll love this Himalayan sal & sugar scrub and this chamomile & coconut oil moisturizing cream.

homemade foot spa

This kit consists of a Himalayan salt, coconut oil & brown sugar scrub, a terracotta pumice stone, and a moisturizing cream made from coconut oil and chamomile essential oil.
As you see, it is a recovery skin kit, removes calluses and dead skin, and gives intense moisturizing. Therefore, it is ideal for all types of feet!
If you want to intensify the results, I recommend taking a foot soak before, mixing a handful of coarse salt and baking soda in a bucket with warm water, you can add a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil or a bunch of dried chamomile or lavender. If you prefer you can add some bath bombs like these or this green tea foot soak that I posted some time ago. Soak your feet for about 20 minutes. This will heal  wounds and blisters and avoid any infection, it will also soften hard skin and calluses, and will make easier to remove them, apart from the feeling of comfort that your feet will experience after a busy day!
Foot scrub:
3 Tbsp coconut oil
2 Tbsp honey
1/4 cup olive oil (I used calendula infused oil)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Himalayan salt (or fine sea salt)
a few drops of trea tree essential oil
Mix all ingredients, you can add more olive oil if the mixture is not well integrated (it depends on where the climate). If where you live  coconut oil is in its solid state,  you can whip and then icorporate the rest of ingredients. If coconut oil is liquid, just mix all ingredients together, without whipping.
This scrub is ideal for feet, the coarse granulate brown sugar mixed with fine sea salt make a strong but gentle exfoliation while softening hardness and removing dead skin.
We will apply a gentle massage, insisting in hard and dry areas. Coconut oil and olive oil (or any oil you have infused) ensure high hydration and tea tree essential oil is a great antibacterial and fungicidal .
Then rub with terracotta pumice stone, you can find it in health food and natural food stores. You can also use a regular pumice stone. What I like about this terracota stone  is how soft it is, and also that it doesn´t  harm  the skin, removes dead skin  and softens hard skin as well.
And finally let´s moisturize with this wonderful homemade chamomile & coconut oil cream:
Camomile & coconut oil moisturizing cream:
coconut oil
olive oil (or chamomile infused oil)
cornstarch
chamomile essential oil
Vitamin E optional
I haven´t set quantities because it gets a little eye and depend greatly on the climate in which you live. If you are in a warm climate, above 25 degrees, your coconut oil will be liquid, then mix all ingredients to a paste, cool to solidify and then beat with electric mixer until creamy. I used 1/2 cup coconut and olive oil (mixed), 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 10 drops of essential oil. It can be store in the fridge to mantain its original texture, but it´s not required.
If instead you live in a colder climate, and your coconut oil comes in solid state, simply add the olive oil and essential oil and beat with mixer until mixture looks like whipped cream, you will not need to incorporate cornstarch. Keep out of the fridge.
Apply along the entire foot, at the time of going to bed, with a gentle massage and leave hydrate overnight.
In acute cases of dryness and lack of hydration, a very effective method is to smear your foot with a generous amount of cream and put your foot in a plastic bag, leaving for a few hours (or overnight) and the next morning your skin will recover its beauty and softness!
