Cómo aplicar el Iluminador? dos & donts

Sabemos que este año será de pasar las fiestas en petite committee pero no significa no arreglarte aunque sea un poco. Saben que soy de la idea de arreglarte no importa si son 2 o más porque te levanta el ánimo increíble y te ayuda a cambiar la actitud. Una de mis secret weapons para lograr un efecto “extra”, fresca y despierta es el highlighter o iluminador (es lo mismo).

El iluminador es una herramienta que cómo lo dice su nombre te ilumina y da luz a ciertas partes del rostro con la intención de resaltar y generar volumen; Y como sabemos, la luz atrae la mirada, por eso es importante saber cómo y en dónde aplicarlo.

A highlighter is a tool that, as its name says, illuminates and highlights certain parts of the face with the intention of generating volume and attract the eye to a specific zone, therefore the importance of knowing how and where to apply it.

Dónde aplicarlo?

Seguro haz visto muchas fotos o videos donde se aplican el iluminador en grandes cantidades en pómulos, nariz y mentón PERO eso es para que se note más en el video o para lograr una fotografía increíble. La realidad es que si aplicas esa cantidad es probable que brilles cómo foco especialmente si tu piel tiende a mixta o grasa y por la forma de nuestro rostro no todos necesitamos iluminador en las mismas zonas.

Lo ideal es que apliques iluminador en los puntos altos del rostro. Empieza por la parte alta de los pómulos en forma de C hacia la sien y no hacia la nariz. Si quieres alargar o ensanchar tu nariz aplica un poco en la parte media del tabique y si quieres generar la apariencia de más mentón puedes aplicar un poco ahí también.

Surely you have seen many photos or videos where the highlighter is applied in large amounts on cheekbones, nose, and chin BUT this is for video purposes or for an amazing photo. The reality is that if you apply that amount, it is likely that you will shine as a lighting bulb, especially if your skin tends to be combination or oily and because of the shape of our face, not all of us need highlighter in the same areas.

Ideally, you should apply highlighter to the high points of the face. Start at the top of the cheekbones in a C-shape towards the temple and not towards the nose. If you want to lengthen or widen your nose, apply a little in the middle of the septum and if you want to create the appearance of more chin, you can apply a little there too.

Cómo aplicar el iluminador?

El iluminador es de los últimos pasos en tu maquillaje, después del contour y el rubor. Hay diferentes tipos de iluminador. Los más comunes son en polvo y son más fáciles de aplicar con brocha o con tu dedo. Lo recomendable es siempre ir de menos a más y no cometas el error de solo verte frente al espejo mientras lo aplicas, gira tu rostro en diferentes direcciones para que notes el efecto y decidas sí necesitas más.

También hay iluminadores en barra, líquidos y crema, que normalmente tienen un efecto más ligero. Para que duren más aplícalos una vez que ya pusiste polvo sellador a tu maquillaje. Si quieres lograr un efecto aún más fuerte aplica primero estos y encima un iluminador en polvo de un tono similar.

Highlighter is one of the last steps in your makeup, after contouring and blushing. There are different types of highlighter. The most common are powders and they are easier to apply with a brush or your finger. Remember to always go from less to more and do not make the mistake of just seeing yourself in front of the mirror as you apply it, turn your face in different directions so that you notice the effect and decide if you need more.

There are also stick, liquid, and cream highlighters, which usually have a lighter and more natural effect. To make them last longer, apply them once you have already put sealing powder on your makeup. If you want to achieve an even stronger effect, apply these first and layer with a powder highlighter of a similar shade

Mis Iluminadores Favoritos

Con el iluminador se puede jugar mucho y el tono depende de que quieres lograr. Puede ir de acuerdo a los tonos de tus sombras y maquillaje en general o si quieres algo muy natural escoje un tono similar al de tu piel para lograr un efecto de piel radiante y sana. Por ejemplo champagne y dorados para tez morena y rose gold o más blancos para pieles muy claras.Les dejo algunos de mis favoritos.

With highlighters, you can play a lot and the tone you chose depends on what you want to achieve. It can go according to the tones of your eyeshadows and makeup in general or if you want something very natural choose a tone similar to your skin to achieve a radiant and healthy skin effect. Becca es para mí el rey de los iluminadores, naturales y fáciles de aplicar pero también para ir construyendo más brillo. Y la paleta de Anastasia me encanta porque tiene colores muy suaves e iridiscentes para jugar más dependiendo el tono de makeup que estoy usando.

Becca for me is the king of highlighters, natural and easy to apply but also you can build more shine. Also I love Anastasia’s moonlight palette because it has very soft and iridescent colors to play more depending on the makeup I’m using.

Líquidos

Amo el de Givenchy Teint Couture porque lo mezclo con mi base de maquillaje y se ve un look muy natural y glowy o/y también lo aplico al final. Tiene una brocha q te ayuda a aplicarlo fácilmente y luego paso con mi dedo para difuminar. El de Dior Backstage viene como gotero, no se desperdicia nada y necesitas realmente una gota más que suficiente brilla mucho. Vale la pena la inversión.

I love the Givenchy teint Couture because I mix it with my foundation and it looks very natural and glowy or I apply it at the end. It has a brush that helps you apply it easily and then I use my finger to blend. The Dior backstage one comes as a dropper, nothing is wasted and a drop is more than enough and shines a lot. It is worth the investment.

En barra

De los que he probado estos dos me encantan. El de Becca es super ligero, el efecto es como tornasol y el de Nars aunque es una barra multiusos este tono (copacabana) me gustó para iluminador diario porque es muy natural.

Becca gives that light effect and Nars’s, although it is a multipurpose bar, this tone (Copacabana) is the one I use as a everyday highlighter.

Physicians Formula y Nyx Born to Glow son dos opciones muy buenas para entrar al mundo de los iluminadores. Además ésta edición de Nyx (que se los acabo de enseñar en IG stories) viene con 3 tonos así que lo hace perfecta opción de regalo de Navidad

The one from Physicians formula was probably the first highlighter I ever used and I still love it, it is more for a tanned look but there are whiter and pearl tones. The Nyx Born to glow (I just showed you on IG stories), wow the pigmentation and shine! excellent for a Christmas gift because it brings 3 very different tones.
