Happy to be back writing after a couple of months of madness and full of changes. And definitely, my return had to be with one of the most anticipated events in the world of fashion: the MET GALA 2021 that took place last night after being postponed by the pandemic.
Que es el MET GALA?
Es un evento benéfico que ocurre cada año desde 1948. El objetivo es recaudar fondos para el instituto del vestido del Museo Metropolitano de Arte de NY (MET). Todo lo recaudado corresponde al resupuesto anual del instituto. Y con este evento se da inicio a la exposición anual del Instituto.El evento es codirigido por Anna Wintour, editora de la revista Vogue y se celebra el primer Lunes de Mayo (a excepción de 2020 que tuvo que posponerse por la pandemia). Lo que no todos saben es que este evento es temático, es decir, cada año se designa un tema y los diseñadores tienen la oportunidad de expresar y hacer arte libremente. Por eso es que llegamos a ver looks muy dramáticos y extravagantes
It is a charity event that has occurred every year since 1948. The objective is to raise funds for the Institute of Clothing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art of NY (MET). Everything collected corresponds to the annual budget of the institute. And with this event, the annual exhibition of the Institute begins.
The event is co-directed by Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue magazine and is held on the first Monday in May (except for 2020 which had to be postponed due to the pandemic). El tema de este año
La celebración de la moda americana es el tema de este año “In America, a Lexicon of Fashion” y aunque honestamente pocos cumplieron con la tarea es muy interesante analizar lo que hay detrás de cada look.Honestamente esperaba ver mucho mas presencia de diseñadores conocidos por hacer historia en la moda americana como Halston, Calvin Klein y Ralph Lauren
Algunos de los looks que a mi parecer mejor cumplieron con la tarea fueron: Debbie Harrys vestida en Zac Posen inspirada en la bandera de US y con maquillaje inspirado en Marlyn Monroe. Kaia Gerber con su tributo a Bianca Jagger replicando el vestido original de Dior en Oscar de la Renta. Ciara que lució un jersey de la NFL trasformado a vestido ( hasta su clutch fue un balón de futbol americano) y Quanna un modelo y activista nativoamericana que represento los derechos de los nativos americanos con su look.
The celebration of American fashion is the theme of this year “In America, a Lexicon of Fashion” and although honestly, few fulfilled the task, it is very interesting to analyze what is behind each look.
I expected to see a lot more presence of designers known for making history in American fashion like Halston, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren
Some of the looks that in my opinion successfully completed the task were: Debbie Harrys dressed in Zac Posen inspired by the US flag and with makeup inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Kaia Gerber with her tribute to Bianca Jagger replicating the original Dior dress at Oscar de la Renta. Ciara who wore an NFL jersey transformed into a dress (even her clutch was a football) and Quanna a model and Native American activist who represented the rights of Native Americans with her look.

Esta edición del Met Gala se llevará a cabo en dos partes. La primera se dio ayer y la segunda en Mayo del próximo año.
Por primera vez esta edición del Met Gala se transmitió en vivo a través de la página web de Vogue. Los principales patrocinadores fueron Facebook e Instagram con el objetivo de incluir a nuevas generaciones y la manera en que consumen la moda
Este año la lista de invitados fue muy comentada porque es la primera vez que la cantidad de influencers, youtubers, tiktokers fue muy grande. Vimos por ejemplo a la YouTuber Emma Chamberlain, a Nikkie Tutorials y a la directora de moda de Instagram Eva Chen
Met Gala 2021 will have the only edition to have a second part in May of next year.
For the first time this edition of the Met Gala was broadcasted live on Vogue’s website. The main sponsors were Facebook and Instagram with the aim of including new generations and the way they consume fashion
